Spectacular views of Snailhead, Cow and Black Mountain in the foothills of the Sierra can be seen from the gardens and snow covered peaks are visible in Winter and Spring. There is excellent bird watching and butterflies and lizards are also plentiful. Visitors can walk around on their own, or individuals or groups can schedule a guided tour given by an experienced horticulturist and landscaper with more than 30 years experience.
Visitors can stroll through gardens of lavender, roses, herbs, perennials, fruits, vegetables and native plants which are naturally and sustainably grown. Most of the year there is something blooming such as the 20 varieties of lavender, 50 different roses, flowering trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials. More than 60 different herbs grow in the dedicated herb garden. Examples of the types of plants which will thrive in valley's hot and dry climate are featured in the various demonstration gardens. The wisteria pergola, rose arbor and many trees offer shady spots in summer where visitors can relax.
Mountain View Cottage, the garden gift shop, is shaded by gnarled willow trees near the fruit orchard and raised bed vegetable garden. The shop offers fresh & dried lavender and other flowers, fresh, dried and silk floral arrangements, and fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs in season. Soaps, lotions, candles, essential oil, massage oil, potpourri, spices, jellies, vinegar and other herbal and gourmet food products are also available. Various classes and events are scheduled throughout the year and are listed on the website. |
