POSITION TITLE: Sales and Marketing Manager
ORGANIZATION: Visalia Convention and Visitors Bureau
STATUS: Full Time / Exempt
REPORTS TO: Chair of the Board of Directors

Job Summary
To promote and sell Visalia as a premier convention, meeting, sports events and overnight destination with a focus on city wide events; achieve specific room night and economic impact sales goals as assigned and reviewed annually. Position can be located in Visalia or a major California City.

Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for planning and implementing national, regional, and local sales efforts to maximize convention, conference, and tradeshow business that support the objectives of the Visalia Convention and Visitors Bureau. Other duties:

  • Generate new city wide business through research, direct sales, and prospecting 
  • Attend and organize participation at industry tradeshows, sales missions, and networking opportunities while soliciting new, city wide business; manage all preparation, follow-up, and ROI reporting. This position requires travel and work outside normal business hours
  • Develop professional relationships with clients in the state association and SMERF markets; create and maintain a robust database 
  • Prepare event cost projections and proposal packages for clients’ consideration
  • Coordinate and conduct site tours for meeting planners, showcasing facilities and attractions in the city 
  • Compile monthly and year ends sales records for the Board of Directors
  • Maintain positive working relationship with board of directors, sales managers, staff, meeting planners, area attractions, hotels and facility managers  
  • Provide administrative, marketing and budgetary management of the sales department
Preferred Qualifications 
The right candidate should be highly organized, detail oriented and have a passion for the industry. Sales strategy, event and logistics planning, and travel industry experience is highly desirable along with a proven track record of sales and service-oriented work. Also desired:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, hospitality or related field 
  • Two to five years of experience in convention and sports events sales 
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize and deliver within pressing timelines 
  • Ability to write and initiate marketing and budget plans 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Willing and able to work evenings and weekends based on client and office demands; this position is salaried and exempt 
  • Ability to operate technology systems within the office and remote environments 
  • iDSS Passkey GroupMax, and Constant Contact experience a plus
